I’m going to offer your 3 simple tips:
- keep it simple and concise. Recruiters and hiring managers won’t have time read a long letter. They’re used to read emails. Keep your cover letter about the average length of an email. Use plain and simple English.
- Your cover letter should have one single goal — get yourself an interview. Think this as your elevator pitch — if there are 10 candidates who apply the same position, why should the employer offer you an interview?
- Be original: Most applicants are going to copy the contents from a resume/cover letter book. Don’t do that. Instead, establish the mind set that you’re the product, and you’re writing a sales copy to sell the product — you.
