Begin each day by telling yourself

June 30th, 2012 · No Comments

I know plenty of people out there who are dreading going to work every morning. Annoying colleagues and corporate politics made them miserable.

Let me share with you a quote:

“Begin each day by telling yourself: Today I shall be meeting with interference, ingratitude, insolence, disloyalty, ill-will, and selfishness – all of them due to the offenders’ ignorance of what is good or evil.”
― Marcus Aurelius, Meditations

If you like this quote, I suggest you to read Meditations by Marcus Aurelius.

I came across this quote because lately I have been studying Stoicism – if you’re interested in learning more about Stoicism, I suggest you start with Ryan Holiday’s excellent guest post on Tim Ferriss’s blog: Stoicism 101: A Practical Guide for Entrepreneurs.

One thing I wish I’ve done more was to spend more time reading and studying philosophy. In the end of day, no matter how much money we make or how successful we are in our career, if we don’t live up to what really matters to us, we will not be happy.

But, do you really know what you want in life? What really matter to you? What is the meaningful of your life? If you don’t have answers to these questions, I suggest you to spend some time to figure them out. It’ll be time well spend.
