I used to get really frustrated by office politics. I would bring the negative emotions home and feel bad for a long time.
Once I complained to a aunt, and she told me a story.
She attended a Catholic kindergarten when she was a kid. She wasn’t very popular among her peers. She would feel really bad about it, and cried hard.
One of the Catholic nuns at the kindergarten was very kind, caring and wise. She would say to my aunt: "Kim, are you nice to yourself? If you’re not nice to yourself, nobody will".
Whenever she saw my aunt, she would say "Kim, have you been nice to yourself today?" To this day, my aunt still remembers the nun and her words.
When you’re felling frustrated or disappointed or angry, nobody is hurting except you. You suffer the most. I know it’s hard not to feel bad. But, I think we all need to learn to better manage our emotions.
Don’t be too harsh on yourself; be nice to yourself. 🙂
