We are lucky

September 9th, 2008 · Comments

I once had a colleague. He was in his late 40′s, start-up veteran, experienced software developer, and a wise man. And he was a big Kansas Jayhawk fan because he was from Kansas and went to school there.

When he heard people complained about things at work, he always said:

"When I grew up in Kansas, I had to work long and hard in the farm fields under the hot sun in the Summer. That’s called hard work. After I have done that, I’d never complain about any work in high tech."

We all have our shares of frustrations, issues, and challenges working in high tech. We should all strive for healthy, energizing, and successful career. But, sometimes, it’s worthwhile to step back and reflect — we’re pretty lucky! Let’s keep our perspective as we work hard toward the next IPO, promotions, etc.
