Simple Cover Letter Advice

October 8th, 2008 · Comments

I’m going to offer your 3 simple tips:

  1. keep it simple and concise. Recruiters and hiring managers won’t have time read a long letter. They’re used to read emails. Keep your cover letter about the average length of an email. Use plain and simple English.
  2. Your cover letter should have one single goal — get yourself an interview. Think this as your elevator pitch — if there are 10 candidates who apply the same position, why should the employer offer you an interview?
  3. Be original: Most applicants are going to copy the contents from a resume/cover letter book. Don’t do that. Instead, establish the mind set that you’re the product, and you’re writing a sales copy to sell the product — you.

Try the 3 tips. Let me know your result — regularguy@GeekMBA360.com.
